New Tests at OLIMP СDL: PCR Diagnosis of Urogenital Infections in Men

OLIMP СDL is expanding its laboratory diagnostic capabilities and introduces two modern PCR tests using semen or prostate fluid for a comprehensive assessment of male reproductive health and the detection of urogenital infections.

"Detection of STIs by PCR in Semen/Prostate Fluid" Package

The test is designed to detect clinically significant sexually transmitted infections (STIs) that may remain asymptomatic and lead to chronic inflammatory processes and impaired reproductive function.

The test includes:

  • Neisseria gonorrhoeae (gonococcus);
  • Chlamydia trachomatis (chlamydia);
  • Mycoplasma genitalium (genital mycoplasma);
  • Trichomonas vaginalis (Trichomonas).

"Detection of Mycoplasmas by PCR in Semen/Prostate Fluid" Package

The test is designed to detect opportunistic microorganisms that may contribute to the development of chronic inflammatory diseases of the male genitourinary system.

The test includes:

  • Mycoplasma hominis;
  • Ureaplasma urealyticum;
  • Ureaplasma parvum.

When can the test be useful ?

Both test packages may be recommended:

  • in the presence of symptoms of inflammatory diseases of the genitourinary system;
  • in cases of chronic prostatitis;
  • in the presence of discharge, burning, or discomfort during urination;
  • in cases of infertility or reduced reproductive function;
  • after unprotected sexual intercourse;
  • as part of a preconception health assessment;
  • as part of a comprehensive assessment of male health.

Advantages of PCR Diagnostics

  • High sensitivity and specificity of the method.
  • Ability to detect infections even when the pathogen concentration is low.
  • Rapid availability of results.
  • Detection of hidden and mildly symptomatic infections.
  • Helps determine the cause of chronic inflammatory processes and reproductive health disorders.

Preparation for the Test

Semen or prostate fluid is used for the analysis.

Recommended:

  • 48 hours before the test: abstain from sexual intercourse.
  • Collect the sample 2-3 weeks after completing antibiotic therapy.
  • Before collection of the biological material, perform hygienic cleansing of the genital area and hands.

Important

Many urogenital infections may remain asymptomatic for a long time. Test results should be interpreted only in conjunction with the clinical presentation, medical history, and results of other examinations. The decision on whether treatment is required should be made by the attending physician.

СDL OLIMP continues to implement modern laboratory technologies, providing physicians and patients with reliable tools for the timely diagnosis of urogenital infections and the preservation of male reproductive health.
