TSH

TSH is produced by the pituitary gland, a gland located in the brain. It regulates the function of the thyroid gland and affects the production of T3 and T4 hormones, which are involved in metabolism and help maintain normal body function.

TSH levels vary depending on how actively the thyroid gland is functioning. If the thyroid gland does not produce enough hormones, the pituitary gland increases TSH production to stimulate its activity.

Ultrasensitive TSH is measured using a method that can detect very low concentrations of the hormone and allows for a more accurate assessment of its level.

Free T4

One of the main hormones produced by the thyroid gland. It is involved in regulating metabolism and affects the function of the nervous and cardiovascular systems, as well as the growth and development of the body.

In the blood, most T4 is bound to proteins, while a small portion circulates in a free form. Free T4 is available to tissues and reflects the biologically active fraction of the hormone, which is why its measurement is used to assess thyroid function.

A free T4 test helps identify thyroid dysfunction and is used when hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism is suspected. The result is usually assessed together with TSH, as these parameters complement each other and provide more comprehensive information about thyroid function.
