IgA antibodies to NMDA receptor

NMDA receptor (N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor) is a type of glutamate receptor that plays an important role in nerve signal transmission, learning, memory, and neuroplasticity. It is actively functioning in the brain, especially in the hippocampus and cerebral cortex.

IgA antibodies to NMDA receptors are autoantibodies that can be produced in disorders of the immune system and damage to the blood-brain barrier. Normally, these antibodies are absent or present in extremely low amounts in the blood.
