Antibodies to parathyroid gland

Antibodies to parathyroid gland tissue are specific immunoglobulins produced by the body when the immune system malfunctions and the parathyroid gland's own cells are perceived as foreign. The autoimmune attack damages the glands and reduces the production of parathyroid hormone (PTH), which regulates calcium and phosphorus levels in the body.

The test for antibodies to the parathyroid gland is used to diagnose autoimmune hypoparathyroidism and to assess the causes of chronic hypocalcemia. It is also important in the comprehensive examination of patients with polyendocrine autoimmune syndromes.
