Bacteriological examination of nasopharyngeal mucus for Neisseria meningitidis using an analyzer
Meningococcal infection is a hazardous disease that can present as a mild cold (nasopharyngitis), severe inflammation of the brain membranes (meningitis), or a blood infection (sepsis). The insidious nature of the infection lies in the fact that about 10-20% of people are healthy carriers of the bacteria and can infect others without even knowing it.
This analysis detects the presence of Neisseria meningitidis in the nasopharynx, isolates the pathogen in a pure culture, and confirms the diagnosis or carrier status.
Who is recommended for this test ?
- Individuals who have been in contact with a patient with meningococcal infection.
- Children and adults with signs of acute nasopharyngitis in areas with active outbreaks.
- When bacterial meningitis is suspected.
- During preventive screenings in organized groups (daycare centers, schools, military units).
