HOMA-IR (Insulin Resistance Index Assessment)

NOMA index (Homeostasis Model Assessment of Insulin Resistance). It is used to assess the resistance (insensitivity of tissues) to insulin. For this purpose it is necessary to measure glucose and insulin concentration on an empty stomach, the calculation of the index consists in determining the ratio of indicators.

Insulin resistance - Develops as a result of resistance to the metabolic effects of the hormone insulin. - Reduces the responsiveness of tissues to insulin by an average of 50%; - It is universal and does not depend on the presence and degree of obesity in both men and women - Resistance of fatty, musclar tissue, liver to insulin leads to compensatory hyperinsulinemia, which triggers a variety of metabolic disorders in the body: increased production of male sex hormones, which aggravates hyperandrogenism

Conditions occurring with insulin resistance:

  • - obesity;
  • - diabetes mellitus - impaired glucose tolerance;
  • - dyslipidemia;
  • - polycystic ovarian syndrome;
  • - atherosclerosis; - metabolic syndrome - acanthosis;
  • - arterial hypertension;

Preparation rules:

- Delivery of material on an empty stomach, in the morning - 12 hours before the study should exclude alcohol intake, smoking, eating, limit physical activity.

Test material: Venous blood
