Cobalt (Co) in blood (chromatography)

Cobalt is a vital trace element that is a cofactor in the metabolism of vitamin B12 (cyanocobalamin). This vitamin consists of 4% cobalt. Cyanocobalamin is necessary for hematopoiesis, the functioning of nervous tissue, muscles, and liver. Cobalt also takes part in the synthesis of thyroid gland hormones, increases iron absorption, participates in the restoration of antioxidants, and stimulates the production of erythropoietin.
