Molybdenum (Mo) in hair.

The analysis of molybdenum levels in hair allows assessment of the body's molybdenum status and helps identify possible deficiency or excessive accumulation. The test reflects long-term molybdenum intake and is used as part of a comprehensive evaluation of trace element status.

Molybdenum is an essential trace element that forms part of enzymes involved in protein metabolism, sulfur-containing amino acid metabolism, and other important biochemical processes. It plays a role in the detoxification of certain harmful substances and in maintaining normal metabolic function. Although the body's requirement for molybdenum is relatively small, disturbances in its balance may affect the function of various organs and systems.

The test is recommended in cases of suspected trace element imbalance, long-term restrictive diets, chronic gastrointestinal diseases, and as part of preventive health assessments and nutritional evaluation programs.

The analysis is performed using a hair sample examined by high-precision chromatography. Because hair accumulates trace elements during growth, the test provides information about molybdenum intake over the previous several months.

The results help physicians assess the characteristics of trace element metabolism and, if necessary, recommend additional investigations or dietary adjustments.

No special preparation is usually required. Before sample collection, it is recommended to follow the laboratory's hair sampling guidelines.
