Detection of DNA pathogens of pertussis (pertussis, bronchiseptica, species) by PCR

Whooping cough is a group of acute infectious diseases of the respiratory tract caused by bacteria of the genus Bordetella (B pertussis, B. parapertussis, B. bronchiseptica).

Symptoms:

  • prolonged, paroxysmal, convulsive cough with wheezing ("whoop"),
  • possible vomiting after coughing,
  • prolonged (weeks and months) course,
  • predominantly affects children, especially unvaccinated ones,
  • airborne transmission,
  • risk of complications (pneumonia, apnea, convulsions, life-threatening in infants).
