Determination of the total number of antibodies to human immunodeficiency viruses (HIV) in blood serum by immunochemiluminescence*

HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) is a virus that attacks the body's immune system. If left untreated, HIV can lead to AIDS (acquired immunodeficiency syndrome).

  • Currently, there is no effective treatment. Once infected with HIV, it persists for life. But with proper medical care, HIV can be controlled.
  • The only way to find out if you have HIV is to get tested. Knowing your HIV status helps you make healthy decisions to prevent contracting or transmitting HIV.
  • Most people have flu-like symptoms within 2-4 weeks after infection. Symptoms can last from several days to several weeks. The presence of these symptoms does not in itself mean that you have HIV. Similar symptoms can be caused by other diseases. Some people don't have any symptoms at all. The only way to find out if you have HIV is to get tested.
  • The test for the detection of total antibodies to HIV type 1 and type 2 is the main screening test for HIV infection. Upon receiving a positive result for antibodies by the ELISA method, we can talk about a possible infection with the human immunodeficiency virus.
