Package "Detection of STIs in the Oropharynx by PCR"
A comprehensive PCR assay designed to detect the pathogens responsible for sexually transmitted infections (STIs) in biological specimens collected from the oropharynx. The test identifies the DNA of microorganisms that may be transmitted through oral sexual contact and cause infectious and inflammatory conditions of the oropharyngeal mucosa.
The panel includes:
- Chlamydia trachomatis
- Neisseria gonorrhoeae
- Trichomonas vaginalis
- Mycoplasma genitalium
PCR is a highly sensitive method that can detect infection even in the absence of obvious clinical symptoms.
Clinical Significance
Oropharyngeal infections caused by STI pathogens are often asymptomatic or may mimic common inflammatory diseases of the upper respiratory tract.
An infected individual may therefore remain a source of transmission to sexual partners.
Timely diagnosis enables identification of the causative pathogen, confirmation of the site of infection, and initiation of appropriate treatment.
