To the list of tests

Profile "Diarrhea"

The "Diarrhea" profile is a comprehensive set of tests that helps identify possible causes of diarrhea, loose or frequent stools, abdominal pain, and other intestinal disorders.

The profile includes tests for bacteria, viruses, parasites, and protozoa, as well as tests that help assess digestion and detect signs of intestinal inflammation or bleeding.

This comprehensive approach is not limited to searching for a single pathogen and allows simultaneous testing for the most common infectious and parasitic causes of intestinal symptoms.

What the profile includes

  • Stool examination for protozoa and helminths by manual microscopy. Helps detect helminth (worm) eggs, cysts, and other forms of protozoa that may cause changes in bowel habits, abdominal pain, nausea, decreased appetite, and other symptoms.
  • Detection of Giardia antigen in stool. Helps identify signs of infection caused by Giardia lamblia. Giardiasis may be accompanied by prolonged or recurrent diarrhea, bloating, abdominal rumbling, and discomfort.
  • Fecal occult blood test. Detects small amounts of blood that cannot be seen with the naked eye. It may be used to identify signs of intestinal mucosal damage or inflammation.
  • Coprogram. A comprehensive assessment of the physical and chemical characteristics of stool. It provides an approximate assessment of how completely proteins, fats, and carbohydrates are digested and may help identify certain signs of inflammation and digestive disorders.
  • Rotavirus — stool antigen. Helps detect rotavirus infection, one of the common causes of acute diarrhea, especially in children. It is often accompanied by vomiting, fever, and loose stools.
  • Stool culture for pathogenic microflora with antibiotic susceptibility testing. Allows certain pathogenic bacteria that cause intestinal infections to be cultured and identified. If a bacterium is detected, its antibiotic susceptibility is additionally determined, which helps the physician select appropriate treatment.
  • PCR for intestinal infections (acute intestinal infections) in stool/rectal swab. PCR detects the genetic material of intestinal infection pathogens. The test may detect bacterial and viral pathogens and helps establish an infectious cause of symptoms more quickly.
