Profile "Pancreas"
The pancreas plays an important role in digestion and the regulation of carbohydrate metabolism. It produces enzymes required for the breakdown of nutrients, as well as hormones that help maintain stable blood glucose levels.
The "Pancreas" profile combines laboratory parameters that allow assessment of signs of pancreatic injury, exocrine pancreatic function, endogenous insulin production, and carbohydrate metabolism. Measurement of the CA 19-9 antigen complements the laboratory assessment of the pancreas and gastrointestinal tract.
The test may be used as part of the comprehensive diagnosis of pancreatitis, exocrine pancreatic insufficiency, and disorders of carbohydrate metabolism, as well as for monitoring previously diagnosed diseases.
