Iodine in daily urine (chromatography)

Iodine concentration determination in daily urine is used to assess the iodine balance in the body, diagnose iodine deficiency or intoxication. Iodine (I)-essential (vital) trace element, necessary for the synthesis of thyroid hormones, which have a broad range of action and play an important role in the life of a person at any age, but especially during the intrauterine period and early childhood.  Thyroid hormones affect the metabolism of proteins, fats and carbohydrates, growth, development and differentiation of organs and tissues, the function of the central and peripheral nervous system, cardiovascular and respiratory system. Iodine concentration is detected by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS). The advantage of such method is high sensitivity and accuracy.
