Zonulin is a protein that regulates the permeability of the intestinal barrier (tight junctions).
Elevated zonulin levels are associated with increased intestinal permeability ("leaky gut").
The test is used to assess the condition of the intestinal barrier and may be helpful in suspected inflammatory, autoimmune, and metabolic disorders.
