Oncomarker: Breast cancer can be defeated!

Breast cancer is the most common type of tumor among the female population of Europe, America and some Asian countries. Every year, more than one million cases of this disease are registered in the world, and in Kazakhstan - about 3 thousand cases, and every year their number increases by 2-3%.

Oncologists associate the opportunity to reduce the morbidity and death rate from breast cancer with the widespread introduction of preventive measures and early diagnosis. The detection of malignant neoplasms in the early stages of their development allows successful treatment in 90% of patients.

For early diagnosis and control of the treatment of malignant tumors in oncology, special methods are used to determine tumor markers - substances of protein origin, the presence of which in the blood may indicate the presence of cancer. In other words, these are sensitive and highly specific tests, and it has been proven that their implementation in practice significantly increases the effectiveness of the oncologist's work.

CA 15-3 is a highly specific oncomarker that increases in breast cancer. With her benign diseases (mastopathy, etc.), the level of CA 15-3 remains normal or increases slightly. There is an increased content of CA 15-3 in patients with malignant processes in the lungs.

In any case, it should be remembered that a single detection of an increased content of a particular oncomarker is not yet a basis for a cancer diagnosis, but serves as an excuse for an in-depth examination of the patient.
