New Test at СDL OLIMP: PCR Diagnosis of Intestinal Infections (Acute Intestinal Infections)
СDL OLIMP is expanding its laboratory diagnostic capabilities and introduces the "Detection of Acute Intestinal Infection (AII) Pathogens by PCR" test using stool or a rectal swab. This modern method enables the rapid and accurate detection of the most common bacterial and viral intestinal pathogens, even when the number of microorganisms in the tested material is low.
The test includes:
Bacterial pathogens:
- Campylobacter spp.
- Shigella spp. / enteroinvasive Escherichia coli;
- Salmonella spp.
Viral pathogens:
- adenovirus group F;
- rotavirus A;
- astrovirus;
- norovirus.
PCR diagnostics detects the genetic material of the pathogen and facilitates the timely identification of the cause of the disease, which is particularly important for determining the appropriate further management of the patient.
When can this test be useful ?
- in cases of diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain;
- when body temperature increases in association with intestinal disorders;
- when a bacterial or viral intestinal infection is suspected;
- after contact with a person who has an intestinal infection;
- during outbreaks of intestinal infections in organized groups;
- to clarify the cause of gastroenteritis in children and adults;
- in cases of prolonged or recurrent intestinal disorders.

Preparation for the test
The test uses stool samples (for mobile collection teams) or a rectal swab (when the sample is collected at a procedure room).
Recommended:
- Collect the sample within the first 72 hours after the onset of the illness and before starting therapy.
