Determination of methionine in blood by tandem mass spectrometry (TMS)

Methionine is an essential amino acid that serves as a precursor to homocysteine and is involved in methylation processes and protein and lipid synthesis.

TMS analysis of a dried blood spot, performed alongside homocysteine testing, is used for the accurate differential diagnosis of disorders of sulfur-containing amino acid metabolism, including hypermethioninemia and homocystinuria.
