Fragile X Syndrome: Methylation Analysis. Martin–Bell Syndrome

Fragile X syndrome (Martin–Bell syndrome) is a genetic disorder that causes intellectual disability, behavioral and learning difficulties, and affects the patient's physical characteristics.

Although fragile X syndrome can occur in individuals of either sex, males are affected twice as often as females, and the condition is generally more severe in males.

Most males with fragile X syndrome have significant psychomotor developmental delays that may progress to intellectual disability.

The severity of the impairment may range from moderate learning difficulties to more severe intellectual impairment.

Characteristic physical features may include large ears, an elongated face, soft skin, and enlarged testes (macroorchidism) after puberty.
